Wild Horses, one of America's irreplaceable and precious resources are in crisis.
On June 30, 2008, during the National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meeting, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced its potential inability to support, financially, approximately 31,500 wild horses, currently in the agency’s short- and long-term holding facilities. This situation could result in the euthanasia of thousands of wild horses, if a viable solution is not soon found. Although we wish to make the 2008 Summit an experience in learning, our main goal is to address solutions for the present wild horse emergency.
SUMMIT PURPOSE
This year’s Wild Horse and Burro Summit will bring together the diverse skills, knowledge, and resources of America's wild horse groups with leading experts in the fields of equine behavior, equine genetics, range management, reproductive physiology, wild horse ecology, and the uniqueness of wild equid stamina and morphology. We aim to address and co-create immediate solutions to the current conditions that America's wild horses are facing. We also intend to co-vision future conservation, management, and preservation strategies. |

Trace our present day's strength to its source,
And you'll find that man's pathway to glory,
Is strewn with the bones of the horse." Anonymous
